FCO:
Eurovision Comes to Rome - Expect Sequins, Politics, and Lots of Spaghetti

The EUR district has never looked so...extra. As Rome hosts Eurovision for the first time since 1991, the fascist-era architecture is getting a glitter makeover. The Palazzo dei Congressi has been transformed into a 10,000-seat arena where Malta's entry (a operatic rendition of "Volare" mixed with trap beats) is causing particular buzz.

But the real show is outside the venue:

  • The "Eurovision Village" in EUR's artificial lake features floating stages
  • A "Pasta Peace Summit" has chefs from competing nations creating fusion dishes (Swedish meatball ravioli, anyone?)
  • Protestors dressed as ancient Romans demonstrate against "cultural imperialism" with surprisingly catchy chants

Local tip: The best free viewing is at the Circus Maximus screening, where Romans cheer louder for the costume changes than the songs.
