FCO:
The Pantheon Gets a Rooftop - And the Views Will Make Gods Jealous

In a move that would make Hadrian raise an eyebrow, Rome's best-preserved ancient building is getting a 21st-century upgrade. The newly opened rooftop terrace at the Pantheon - the first in its 1,900-year history - offers aperitivo with a view straight down through the oculus to the marble floor below.

The engineering is ingenious:

  • A retractable glass floor lets you peer into the dome's interior
  • "Moonlight Nights" feature telescopes aligned with the oculus's astronomical angles
  • The "Cloud Bar" serves cocktails based on ancient Roman weather gods

The catch? Only 50 visitors per hour are allowed up. But watching sunset paint the piazza gold while sipping a "Neptune's Storm" (gin, blue curaçao, and edible silver flakes) is worth waking up early to book.
