SPU:
Sails, Castles & Champagne - Regatta Week Turns Kaštela Into a Fairytale

The cannon blast echoes across the bay as twenty vintage sailboats cross the starting line, their sails emblazoned with medieval crests. On shore, waiters in 15th-century livery pour Pošip wine for spectators lounging on cushions beneath the walls of Kaštel Sućurac. This is Regatta Week - where Split's nautical heritage comes alive in the seven castles dotting the coastline.

The 2024 edition features:

  • The "Doge's Banquet" served on a replica of a 16th-century merchant ship
  • Nighttime "Phantom Race" where boats sail with just lanterns for light
  • Mermaid Swimming Competition (costumes mandatory)

But the real magic happens at Kaštel Novi's floating bar, built on a wooden platform where castle defenders once dumped boiling oil. Now it serves champagne cocktails as DJs spin house music - the surreal contrast of thumping bass against 500-year-old stone walls is pure Dalmatia.

Don't Miss: The "Captain's Ball" where everyone dances the traditional linđo barefoot on the beach.
