The long-awaited relaxation of liquid restrictions in carry-on luggage at UK airports has been delayed due to ongoing supply chain issues and technical difficulties with new CT scanners. Originally set to be implemented in early 2025, the changes to security protocols were expected to ease the 100ml liquid limit for passengers traveling through major airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester.
However, the rollout has been postponed until at least June 2025. The delay is largely attributed to challenges with the procurement and installation of the new, more advanced CT scanners required for the change. These scanners, which are capable of providing clearer and more detailed images of carry-on items, are key to safely lifting the current restrictions. Unfortunately, due to manufacturing delays and supply chain disruptions, airports have not been able to fully integrate the technology on schedule.
As a result, passengers flying from UK airports will continue to face the 100ml liquid limit for carry-on bags until the necessary upgrades are completed. While some regional airports have already lifted the restrictions, major hubs are still operating under the existing rules.
The postponement has disappointed travelers eager for a smoother airport experience, particularly those flying internationally. However, UK airport authorities have emphasized that the delay is necessary to ensure the safety and security of all passengers as the new scanning technology is fully implemented.
